There is no Frontier email app, and Frontier has not run its own mail since March 20, 2024, when email service and support passed to Yahoo. The Frontier email settings for any program are therefore Yahoo's: IMAP on imap.mail.yahoo.com port 993 with SSL, SMTP on smtp.mail.yahoo.com port 465 or 587 with SSL, your full Frontier address as the user name, and a Yahoo app password instead of your normal password. That last point is why most Frontier setups in Outlook fail. The only official apps are Yahoo's phone apps, and Yahoo publishes nothing for Windows or Mac. Verizon completed its purchase of Frontier on January 20, 2026, and nothing about email has changed since. If you read a Frontier address beside Gmail and work mail, an IMAP client holds all of them in one list without paying Yahoo 5 dollars a month to forward.

Which Frontier email apps actually exist
Frontier stopped handling email in 2024. Its help center says that as of March 20, 2024, email service and support are handled solely by Yahoo, and that Frontier has no access to your mailbox and cannot help with passwords, email programs or sign in.
A Frontier address is a Yahoo account now. You sign in at Yahoo Mail with the full address. Yahoo even runs a separate Frontier edition of its help center, and it is the source for every setting on this page.
The phone apps are Yahoo's. The Yahoo Mail app for iPhone and Android signs in with a Frontier address. Mail for Frontier on Google Play is a third party app, not Frontier's.
On a computer there is nothing official. Yahoo discontinued its Windows 10 app and never made one for Mac, Linux or ChromeOS, so every desktop route is either a browser tab or a program you configure yourself.

Settings and the app password rules come from the Frontier edition of Yahoo's help center. The March 20, 2024 handover is Frontier's own statement in its help center. The acquisition date is from Frontier's merger announcement. Yahoo Mail Plus is priced on Yahoo's own Plus page. Apple Mail and Thunderbird both hold several accounts at no license fee, and if one combined list on one computer is the whole problem, either is an honest answer.

If the app password option is missing from your Yahoo account security page, Yahoo is refusing to trust the browser. Its help says to use a browser you have signed in to Yahoo with for several days in a row and to stay out of incognito windows, and that customer care cannot override the check. Once you have a code, it keeps working after you change your main password, and the only way to cut it off is to delete it.

Why Outlook says it could not log on to the IMAP server
The most common Frontier email complaint in 2025 and 2026 reads the same way every time: the account worked for years, then Outlook, classic or new, suddenly shows We could not log on to the incoming (IMAP) server, while the same address still opens fine in the Yahoo Mail app on a phone. A Microsoft moderator answering one of these threads in December 2025 gave the fix that applies to nearly all of them.
Yahoo does not accept your normal password in a third party program. It wants an app password, a code you generate in Yahoo account security and paste into the client once. Outlook shows the refusal as a connection error, so people reset their password, try again, and fail again with the new one. The mailbox was never the problem.
If the password is right and it still fails, look at the server fields. A client set up before 2024 can still have Frontier host names saved from the old platform. Delete the account from the program and add it again with imap.mail.yahoo.com and smtp.mail.yahoo.com. Use the full Frontier address on the browser you normally use. That is also what makes Yahoo willing to issue an app password later.

In Yahoo account security, under External connections, choose Create app password, name it, and copy the code.

Each message gets a category and a spam verdict as it arrives, across every connected mailbox. Filters on the Yahoo website only ever see the Frontier account.
Frontier is a Verizon company now
What the Verizon purchase means for a Frontier address
Verizon completed its purchase of Frontier on January 20, 2026. Frontier's own merger page says fiber customers move to Verizon Fios over the following months, that other Frontier internet customers keep using Frontier's app and website, and that any exceptions will be communicated in advance. None of it mentions email, and there is no Frontier mail platform left to change, because the mailboxes have been on Yahoo since 2024.
There is one piece of history worth knowing. Verizon left the email business once already: in 2017 it closed verizon.net email, moved the addresses whose owners asked onto AOL, and deleted the rest after December 5 of that year. Nothing like that has been announced for Frontier addresses, and we are not predicting it. It is simply a good reason to keep a Frontier address in a client you actually open, and to know where every account that uses it is registered.
Forwarding everything into Gmail is the usual advice, and it has become the expensive one. Yahoo lists automatic forwarding as a Yahoo Mail Plus feature at 5 dollars a month, and Gmail's own fetch from other accounts ends in January 2027. Reading the Frontier mailbox where it lives, next to your other accounts, avoids both.

What Inboxes does not do
It does not change Yahoo's rules. The app password requirement, storage and what Yahoo keeps behind Plus all run on Yahoo servers. We connect the way Yahoo tells third party programs to connect, with an app password over IMAP.
It does not use OAuth anywhere. We connect with a user name and a password or app password over IMAP, which suits a Frontier address perfectly and rules out others. An outlook.com, hotmail.com or Microsoft 365 work address will not connect here. Frontier, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, iCloud, Zoho and own domain mailboxes all do.
No calendar and no contacts. We are a mail client and nothing else. Yahoo Mail on the web has both, and so do Thunderbird, Apple Mail and Outlook.
There is no offline mode and no permanent tier that costs nothing. It runs in a browser tab and wants a connection, and plans start at 29 dollars a month for five mailboxes. The Yahoo Mail website and app cost nothing on the standard plan, Apple Mail comes with every Mac, and Thunderbird carries no license fee. If one combined list on one computer is the entire problem, use one of those. The case for paying starts when you read mail on several machines, or when the volume itself is what you are trying to shrink.

Questions people ask about the Frontier email app
Is there a Frontier email app?
No. Frontier handed its email service and support to Yahoo on March 20, 2024, so a frontier.com or frontiernet.net address is now a Yahoo Mail account under the old name. On a phone the official route is the Yahoo Mail app. On a computer there is no Frontier or Yahoo desktop program at all, only the Yahoo Mail website or a third party email client with a Yahoo app password.
Is Frontier email now Yahoo?

Why is my Frontier email not working in Outlook?
Almost always because Outlook is sending your normal password. Yahoo requires an app password for third party email programs, and a rejected password shows up in Outlook as We could not log on to the incoming (IMAP) server. Generate an app password in Yahoo account security, paste it in, and check that both servers are the Yahoo ones.
Why can I not create a Yahoo app password for my Frontier account?
Yahoo only offers app passwords to a browser it already trusts. Its own advice is to use a browser you have signed in to Yahoo with for several days in a row and to avoid private or incognito windows. What happens to Frontier email now that Frontier is Verizon?
Nothing has been announced. Verizon completed its purchase of Frontier on January 20, 2026 and is moving Frontier fiber customers to Verizon Fios, but the announcements are about internet plans, and Frontier mailboxes already live on Yahoo servers. Keep the Yahoo settings. Verizon did close its own verizon.net email in 2017, so keep the address readable and backed up.
