For verizon.net addresses, now hosted by AOL

Verizon Email App and Verizon.net Email Settings With Every Account in One Inbox

Verizon stopped running email in 2017 and makes no app that reads it. Your verizon.net mailbox lives at AOL now. Here are the settings that answered in our test today, and a way to read it beside Gmail and work mail on any computer.

imap.aol.com · AOL app password · Nothing to install

In short

There is no Verizon email app, because Verizon no longer runs email. It retired the service in 2017 and moved verizon.net addresses to AOL, with a smaller group going to Yahoo. The address still works, and on October 13, 2026 the mail records for verizon.net pointed at AOL servers. So the Verizon.net email settings for any program are AOL's: IMAP on imap.aol.com port 993 with SSL, SMTP on smtp.aol.com port 465 with SSL or 587 with STARTTLS, your full verizon.net address as the user name, and an AOL app password instead of your normal password. The old host imap.verizon.net did not answer at all in our test. If the verizon.net address is one of several you check, a client that holds every account in one list saves you a browser tab per mailbox.

Verizon.net email server settings

What to type into any mail program

Most verizon.net accounts sit at AOL. If you sign in to read mail at Yahoo instead, use the right column. Either way the user name is the whole address, @verizon.net included.

Setting Verizon.net on AOL (most accounts) Verizon.net on Yahoo
Where you sign in on the web mail.aol.com Yahoo Mail (verizon.yahoo.com now redirects there)
Incoming server (IMAP) imap.aol.com, port 993, SSL imap.mail.yahoo.com, port 993, SSL
Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.aol.com or smtp.verizon.net, port 465 SSL or 587 STARTTLS smtp.mail.yahoo.com, port 465 SSL or 587 STARTTLS
User name The full address, for example [email protected] The full address, for example [email protected]
Password An AOL app password, not your sign in password A Yahoo app password, not your sign in password
Old Verizon hosts imap.verizon.net gave no answer on 993 or 143 incoming.yahoo.verizon.net is a POP host, not IMAP

Not sure which side your account is on? Try signing in at mail.aol.com with the full verizon.net address. If AOL accepts it, use the left column. Verizon's retirement notice sends AOL users to mail.aol.com and Yahoo users to verizon.yahoo.com, and on October 13, 2026 that Yahoo address redirected to yahoo.com. POP is also offered, at pop.verizon.net on port 995, but it downloads the inbox to one machine, so pick IMAP unless you have a specific reason not to.

Why people still search for a Verizon email app

The address outlived the mail service behind it

A lot of people got a verizon.net address with DSL or Fios and then built a life on it: the bank, the pharmacy, the insurance carrier, the county tax office, every client who ever wrote back. When Verizon left the email business in 2017 it gave customers a choice of AOL or Yahoo, and most clicked through to AOL without changing anything they printed. Nine years later the address works, but nothing about it says AOL, which is why people keep searching for a Verizon app that does not exist.

That gap is also why setups break. A program that worked for years quietly fails after a security change, because AOL rejects the old password for third party apps and wants a generated app password instead. Guides written before the move still list imap.verizon.net, which did not answer at all when we tested it today.

Fixing the settings fixes one device. The bigger pattern is a verizon.net address in an AOL tab, Gmail in another and a work mailbox somewhere else. If that is your week, an email client for multiple accounts is the thing to set up once, and verizon.net becomes one source among several.

The AOL servers answered and the old Verizon IMAP host did not

We looked up the verizon.net mail records and opened connections to every host the setup guides mention, from our servers in the United States.

Answered

Use these

  • verizon.net mail records point at AOL mail servers
  • imap.aol.com on 993: IMAP ready, password sign in offered
  • smtp.aol.com on 587: STARTTLS, password sign in offered
  • smtp.verizon.net on 587: same AOL and Yahoo servers, same answer
  • pop.verizon.net on 995: POP ready

No answer

Replace these

  • imap.verizon.net on 993: no connection
  • imap.verizon.net on 143: no connection
  • webmail.verizon.com: forwards to a Verizon notice, not a mailbox

One test on one day is not a policy, and AOL can change its hosts. The practical reading is simple. If your program still points at imap.verizon.net, it is pointing at nothing, and no amount of password resets will fix it. The same kind of handover happened at Frontier, whose email moved to Yahoo, and at AT&T, where mail also runs on Yahoo.

Every way to read a verizon.net mailbox

Seven routes to Verizon email on a computer or phone, compared

The question that settles it for most people is whether the thing runs on the machine you own, and whether it can hold your other addresses too.

Route to verizon.net mail Runs on Holds other accounts too Needs an app password Cost
Inboxes Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, in a browser tab Yes, one merged board Yes, this is how we sign in 49 dollars a month for five mailboxes, half that billed yearly
AOL Mail on the web Any browser, any machine No, one mailbox No, it is the AOL sign in page No license fee, carries ads
AOL App for iPhone and Android Phones and tablets only No, AOL accounts No, AOL sign in No license fee
AOL Desktop Gold Windows 10 and above only No, it is the AOL portal No, AOL sign in 9.99 dollars a month
Classic Outlook Windows and Mac, with a Microsoft 365 or Office license Yes, as separate folder trees Yes Part of a Microsoft 365 or Office purchase
Apple Mail macOS, iPhone and iPad only Yes, with an All Inboxes view Not if added as an AOL account, yes over plain IMAP Included with the operating system
Thunderbird Windows, macOS, Linux, Android Yes, through Unified Folders Not if it offers the AOL sign in page, yes otherwise Open source, no license fee

AOL Desktop Gold price checked against the AOL product page in September 2026. AOL lists Windows 10 and above and no macOS build. The AOL App signs in with the full verizon.net address because the mailbox is an AOL account. For more on what the AOL side does and charges for, see the AOL Mail app page.

When the setup fails

Four reasons Verizon email stops working in a mail program

The program is sending your normal password

AOL accepts your password at mail.aol.com and rejects the same password from Outlook, Apple Mail or Thunderbird. The fix is a generated app password from your AOL account security settings. It looks like a broken app, and it is a policy.

The server is still imap.verizon.net

Setups made before 2017, and guides copied from them, still name the old Verizon host. It gave no answer on either IMAP port in our test. Change it to imap.aol.com on 993 with SSL.

The user name is missing @verizon.net

Verizon's notice is explicit that AOL and Yahoo both need the full address as the user name. Typing only the part before the at sign sends AOL looking for an aol.com account with that name.

The account is on Yahoo, not AOL

If mail.aol.com does not recognize the address, the account was moved to Yahoo in 2017. Switch every value to the Yahoo column above, including a Yahoo app password rather than an AOL one.

Still stuck after all four? Our guide to an app password that is not working covers the rarer causes, from a code pasted with a trailing space to an account locked after too many failed attempts.

Where a browser client fits

What Inboxes does with a verizon.net mailbox

The pitch is narrow on purpose. It is the one thing neither Verizon nor AOL offers, which is your old address and your newer ones in one list.

verizon.net beside everything else

The verizon.net address in the same stream as Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud and your own domain, sorted by arrival with the source account on each row. AOL Mail on the web shows one mailbox at a time.

It opens on a Mac and a Chromebook

AOL publishes no desktop program for either. The board loads in whatever browser is on the machine, so the Windows PC in the office and the MacBook at home show the identical inbox.

An app password, scoped and revocable

You paste the code AOL generates for this one app. Your real password never leaves AOL, and revoking the code later does not disturb your phone or any other program.

A category on every message

Each message arrives labeled Important, Newsletter, Notification, Spam or Other. An address that has been in use since the DSL days carries two decades of mailing lists, so sorting before you read pays off here.

Search across every account

One query runs against every connected mailbox, which matters when you cannot remember whether the renewal notice went to verizon.net or to the Gmail address you set up later.

Nothing to install on any machine

No installer, no per machine subscription, and no Windows requirement. Pin the tab or install the page as an app from the browser menu and it behaves like a desktop program.

Four steps, and no download

Connecting a verizon.net address to one board

Nothing here moves your mail. AOL keeps the copy, and the board reads it over IMAP.

Step 01

Sign in at mail.aol.com

Use the full verizon.net address. If AOL does not know it, the account is on Yahoo, and the same steps happen there.

Step 02

Generate an app password

In account security, create an app password. AOL shows it once, so copy it before you close the panel.

Step 03

Add the mailbox

Paste the full address and the app password, and enter imap.aol.com on port 993 with SSL as the incoming server.

Step 04

Add the rest and read one board

Repeat for Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud or your own domain. Everything lands in one stream with the source on each row.

Where this is the wrong answer

What Inboxes does not do

It will not connect a Microsoft mailbox. We sign in with a user name and an app password. Microsoft has removed that kind of sign in from Microsoft 365 work mail and has said it intends to rely only on OAuth for Outlook.com too, so an outlook.com, hotmail.com or Microsoft 365 address will not connect here. verizon.net, AOL, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud and own domain mailboxes do.

It cannot bring back mail Verizon deleted. Verizon states that content not moved before December 15, 2017 was removed from its systems. If the address was never moved to AOL or Yahoo, no client can reach it.

No calendar, no contacts, no offline mode. It runs in a browser tab and wants a connection. Thunderbird, Apple Mail and classic Outlook keep a local copy you can read without signal.

There is no permanent tier that costs nothing. Plans start at 49 dollars a month for five mailboxes, or half that billed yearly. If one verizon.net address on one home computer is the whole job, the settings above and Thunderbird will do it with no license fee. The case for paying starts when you read several mailboxes on several machines, or want the volume itself cut down.

FAQ

Questions people ask about the Verizon email app

Is there a Verizon email app?

No. Verizon retired its own email service in 2017 and moved verizon.net addresses to AOL, with a smaller group choosing Yahoo. Verizon apps today manage your bill and your service and do not read mail. A verizon.net address is read in AOL Mail, in the AOL App on a phone, or in any mail program over IMAP.

Does Verizon still have email?

Verizon itself does not. Its own support page says Verizon has retired its email service and that content not moved to AOL or another provider before December 15, 2017 was deleted. The verizon.net addresses that were moved still work, and on October 13, 2026 the mail records for verizon.net still pointed at AOL mail servers.

What are the Verizon.net email settings?

For a verizon.net address hosted by AOL, incoming mail is imap.aol.com on port 993 with SSL, and outgoing mail is smtp.aol.com on port 465 with SSL or port 587 with STARTTLS. The user name is the full address including @verizon.net, and the password is an AOL app password, not the password you type at mail.aol.com.

What are the Verizon email server settings for Outlook?

Use the same values in Outlook as in any other program: IMAP server imap.aol.com, port 993, SSL; SMTP server smtp.aol.com, port 465 with SSL or 587 with STARTTLS, with outgoing authentication turned on. Enter the full verizon.net address as the user name and paste an AOL app password where Outlook asks for the password.

Do I need an app password for Verizon email?

Yes, in any third party program. AOL states that email apps which do not use its own sign in page require an app password, a randomly generated code that gives a non AOL app permission to read the account. Your normal password is rejected, which is the cause of most Verizon email not working reports in Outlook, Apple Mail and Thunderbird.

How do I get an app password for my Verizon email?

Sign in at mail.aol.com with your full verizon.net address, open the account security settings, and generate an app password for the program you are setting up. AOL shows the code once, so copy it straight into the program. Each code can be revoked on its own later without changing your real password.

Is imap.verizon.net still working?

Not in our test. On October 13, 2026 imap.verizon.net still resolved to a Verizon address, but it gave no answer on port 993 or port 143 from our US servers. imap.aol.com answered on 993 at the same moment. If an old setup still lists imap.verizon.net, that is the setting to change first.

Is smtp.verizon.net still valid?

Yes. On October 13, 2026 smtp.verizon.net pointed at the same AOL and Yahoo mail infrastructure as smtp.aol.com, and both accepted a STARTTLS connection on port 587 and offered password sign in. Either name works for outgoing mail, with the full verizon.net address and the app password.

How do I check my Verizon email on a computer?

Go to mail.aol.com and sign in with the full verizon.net address, including @verizon.net, which is what the Verizon retirement notice tells customers to do. To read it in a program instead of a browser tab, add it over IMAP with the settings on this page and an AOL app password.

What if my Verizon email is on Yahoo instead of AOL?

A smaller group of verizon.net customers chose Yahoo during the 2017 move. Verizon pointed them to verizon.yahoo.com, which now redirects to Yahoo. Those accounts sign in to Yahoo Mail with the full verizon.net address and use Yahoo settings: imap.mail.yahoo.com on 993 with SSL, smtp.mail.yahoo.com, and a Yahoo app password.

Is there a Verizon email app for Windows or Mac?

No. Neither Verizon nor AOL publishes a Mac mail program, and the only AOL program for Windows is AOL Desktop Gold, a subscription at 9.99 dollars a month. On a computer a verizon.net address is read in a browser at mail.aol.com or added to a mail program such as Apple Mail, Thunderbird, Outlook or a browser based client.

Is there a Verizon email app for iPhone or Android?

Verizon makes none. The AOL App for iPhone and Android signs in with the full verizon.net address because the mailbox is an AOL account. The iPhone Mail app and the Gmail app on Android also work if you add the account as an AOL or IMAP account and use an app password.

Why did my Verizon email stop working in Outlook?

In nearly every case the program is still sending your regular password. AOL rejects it for third party apps, so the account fails even though mail.aol.com accepts the same password in a browser. Generate an AOL app password, replace the saved password in Outlook, and check the server is imap.aol.com rather than an old Verizon host.

What happens to Frontier email now that Frontier is part of Verizon?

A frontier.com or frontiernet.net address is a different case from verizon.net. Frontier mail moved to Yahoo in March 2024, and Verizon completed its purchase of Frontier in January 2026. Those addresses use Yahoo settings and a Yahoo app password, not the AOL settings on this page.

Your verizon.net address, and every other one

Connect verizon.net with an AOL app password, add Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud and your own domain, and let a model tag each message before you read it. Nothing to install on any computer.
