For Consolidated and Fidium addresses

Consolidated Email App and Consolidated Email Settings for FairPoint, SureWest and Fidium in One Inbox

Consolidated, now Fidium, makes no mail app and runs six legacy email domains on two different systems. Here are the settings for each one, tested live, and a way to read that address beside Gmail and work mail on any computer.

Six domains tested · Normal password · Nothing to install

In short

There is no Consolidated email app, and the Fidium rebrand in September 2025 did not change anyone's address or servers. consolidated.net, mycci.net, surewest.net and hickorytech.net use imap.yourdomain on port 993 with SSL and smtp.yourdomain on port 587 with STARTTLS. myfairpoint.net and fairpoint.net are two different systems with different host names, which is the setting most people get wrong. Every domain takes the full address and your normal password, with no app password.

Your address ends in Incoming server (IMAP) Outgoing server (SMTP) Where it came from
consolidated.net imap.consolidated.net, port 993, SSL smtp.consolidated.net, port 587, STARTTLS Consolidated Communications
mycci.net imap.mycci.net, port 993, SSL smtp.mycci.net, port 587, STARTTLS Consolidated Communications
surewest.net imap.surewest.net, port 993, SSL smtp.surewest.net, port 587, STARTTLS SureWest, acquired 2012
hickorytech.net imap.hickorytech.net, port 993, SSL smtp.hickorytech.net, port 587, STARTTLS HickoryTech and Enventis, acquired 2014
myfairpoint.net mail.myfairpoint.net, port 143, STARTTLS smtp.myfairpoint.net, port 587, STARTTLS FairPoint, acquired 2017
fairpoint.net mail.fairpoint.net, port 993, SSL smtp.fairpoint.net, port 587, STARTTLS FairPoint, a separate older system

Outgoing authentication must be on for every domain, with the same user name and password as incoming mail. The first four domains also answer IMAP on port 143 with STARTTLS. On myfairpoint.net, port 993 did not answer our servers while 143 with STARTTLS did, so use 143 there and keep encryption on.

Why Consolidated email is confusing

Five companies, six domains and two mail systems

Consolidated Communications grew by buying other phone companies. SureWest in California and Kansas came in 2012, HickoryTech and its Enventis brand in Minnesota in 2014, and FairPoint, the northern New England carrier, in 2017. Each one brought its own email domain, and the customers kept their addresses. In September 2025 the whole company took the Fidium name, and again the addresses stayed.

Most of those domains now sit on one shared hosted mail platform, which is why consolidated.net, mycci.net, surewest.net and hickorytech.net follow the same pattern: imap and smtp in front of the domain. The exception is FairPoint, which left two domains behind. myfairpoint.net moved onto the shared platform. fairpoint.net, without the my, runs on a different system with different host names and different ports.

That difference produces most of the failed setups we see described online. Someone with a myfairpoint.net address finds a fairpoint.net guide, copies mail.fairpoint.net into the incoming field, and gets a login error that looks like a wrong password. If you read two or three of these addresses alongside a newer one, an email client for multiple accounts lets you enter each setting once and stop thinking about it.

Measured in October 2026

Every Consolidated mail domain answered from outside its own network

We looked up the mail records for all six domains and opened connections to the incoming and outgoing hosts from our servers in the United States, the same way any outside mail program would.

Shared platform

4 domains

  • consolidated.net, mycci.net, surewest.net, hickorytech.net
  • IMAP ready on 993 and on 143 with STARTTLS
  • SMTP 587 with STARTTLS and LOGIN sign in

myfairpoint.net

Port 143

  • mail.myfairpoint.net IMAP ready on 143 with STARTTLS
  • No answer on 993 from our servers
  • smtp.myfairpoint.net 587 with STARTTLS and LOGIN

fairpoint.net

Own system

  • mail.fairpoint.net IMAP ready on 993 with SSL
  • Plain password sign in offered
  • smtp.fairpoint.net answering on 587

A test on one day is not a promise, and Fidium can move its mail. What it does show is that these addresses work over standard IMAP and SMTP from anywhere, with a normal password. The outgoing result matters as much as the incoming one, because a mailbox that reads but cannot send is half a setup. Other regional providers handle this differently; the Hawaiian Telcom email app page and the EarthLink mail app page cover two of them.

Every way to read a Consolidated mailbox

Six routes to Consolidated email on a computer or phone, compared

The questions that decide it are whether the route runs on the machines you use, and whether it holds your other addresses too.

Route to Consolidated mail Runs on Holds other accounts too Survives Gmail's January 2027 change Cost
Inboxes Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, in a browser tab Yes, one merged board Yes, reads each domain in place over IMAP 49 dollars a month for five mailboxes, half that billed yearly
Consolidated webmail Any browser, any machine No, one mailbox per sign in Yes Included with Fidium internet
Gmail checking mail from other accounts Anywhere Gmail runs Yes, inside Gmail No, Google drops this fetch for third party addresses No license fee
Classic Outlook Windows and Mac, with a Microsoft 365 or Office license Yes, as separate folder trees Yes Part of a Microsoft 365 or Office purchase
Apple Mail macOS, iPhone and iPad only Yes, with an All Inboxes view Yes Included with the operating system
Thunderbird Windows, macOS, Linux, Android Yes, through Unified Folders Yes Open source, no license fee

Google's January 2027 change removes Gmailify, the POP fetch of other accounts and Send as for third party addresses; the detail is on our check mail from other accounts page. For one address on one shared computer, webmail is the honest answer.

When the setup fails

Four reasons Consolidated email stops working in a mail program

The wrong FairPoint system

A myfairpoint.net address pointed at mail.fairpoint.net, or the reverse, fails with what looks like a bad password. Match the host to the exact domain in your address.

Outgoing authentication is off

Mail arrives and nothing sends. Every Consolidated SMTP host requires a login. Turn on My outgoing server requires authentication and reuse the incoming user name and password.

The user name is missing the domain

Automatic setup often fills in only the part before the at sign. These servers expect the whole address, for example [email protected], with the same password you use in webmail.

Port 25 or 993 where it does not answer

Port 25 is blocked on many networks, so send on 587. On myfairpoint.net, incoming 993 did not answer our servers; 143 with STARTTLS did. A timeout usually means the port, not the password.

If none of those fit, sign in at webmail.mycci.net with the same address and password. If webmail refuses it too, the problem is the account or the password, not the program, and Fidium support is the next call.

Where a browser client fits

What Inboxes does with a Consolidated mailbox

The pitch is narrow on purpose. It is the one thing Fidium does not offer, which is the old address and your newer ones in one list.

Every legacy domain on one board

A consolidated.net address, a myfairpoint.net address and a surewest.net one can sit in the same stream as Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud and your own domain, with the source account on every row.

The settings entered once

Pick the host and port for each domain one time. After that, the office PC, the laptop and a borrowed computer all show the same inbox without setting anything up again.

Your normal password

Connecting takes the address, the password and the host from the table. No app password to generate, and STARTTLS on port 143 is supported for myfairpoint.net.

A category on every message

Each message arrives labeled Important, Newsletter, Notification, Spam or Other. A FairPoint address in use since dial up carries years of mailing lists, so sorting before you read saves real time.

Unaffected by the Gmail change

If you read consolidated.net inside Gmail today, that fetch stops in January 2027. Reading it in place over IMAP does not depend on Gmail at all.

Replies from the right address

An answer to a message on your FairPoint address goes out through that mailbox's own outgoing server, so suppliers and customers see the address they already know.

Three steps, and no download

Connecting a Consolidated address to one board

Nothing here moves your mail. Fidium keeps the copy, and the board reads it over IMAP.

Step 01

Check the domain and password

Read the domain after your at sign and confirm the password once in webmail. If it signs in there, it will sign in over IMAP.

Step 02

Add the mailbox

Enter the full address and password, then the incoming and outgoing hosts and ports for that domain from the table above.

Step 03

Add the rest and read one board

Repeat for the other family addresses, Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud or your own domain. Everything lands in one stream with the source on each row.

Where this is the wrong answer

What Inboxes does not do

It does not host your mail. The mailbox lives at Fidium and depends on your Fidium account. We read it; we do not host it. If the account closes, the address stops working everywhere, including here.

It will not connect a Microsoft mailbox. We sign in with a user name and password or app password. Microsoft has removed that kind of sign in from Microsoft 365 work mail and has said it intends to rely only on OAuth for Outlook.com too, so an outlook.com, hotmail.com or Microsoft 365 address will not connect here. Consolidated domains, Gmail, Yahoo, AOL, iCloud and own domain mailboxes do.

No calendar, no contacts, no offline mode. It runs in a browser tab and wants a connection. At a camp in the woods with no signal, Thunderbird, Apple Mail and classic Outlook keep a local copy you can read offline.

There is no permanent tier that costs nothing. Plans start at 49 dollars a month for five mailboxes, or half that billed yearly. If one consolidated.net address on one home computer is the whole job, the settings above and the mail app you already have will do it. The case for paying starts when you read several mailboxes on several machines, or want the volume itself cut down.

FAQ

Questions people ask about Consolidated and Fidium email

Is there a Consolidated email app?

No. Consolidated Communications, which now goes by Fidium, publishes no mail app for phones, Windows or Mac. Its email runs in webmail at webmail.mycci.net or in whatever mail program you set up by hand. Everything else, from iPhone Mail to Outlook, is a general mail app that you point at the Consolidated servers with the settings on this page.

What are the Consolidated email server settings?

For consolidated.net, mycci.net, surewest.net and hickorytech.net, incoming mail is imap.yourdomain on port 993 with SSL and outgoing mail is smtp.yourdomain on port 587 with STARTTLS, with authentication on. The user name is the full email address. All four domains answered with exactly those options from our servers in the United States in October 2026.

What are the FairPoint email settings?

It depends on the domain. A myfairpoint.net address uses mail.myfairpoint.net on port 143 with STARTTLS incoming and smtp.myfairpoint.net on 587 with STARTTLS outgoing. A fairpoint.net address, without the my, sits on a different system and uses mail.fairpoint.net on port 993 with SSL incoming and smtp.fairpoint.net on 587 outgoing.

What are the Fidium email settings?

Fidium did not move anyone to new email servers when Consolidated took the Fidium name in September 2025, so the settings are the ones for the domain in your address. Look at what follows the at sign, find that domain in the settings table on this page, and use its incoming and outgoing hosts with your full address and normal password.

Did my Consolidated email address change to Fidium?

No. Consolidated has said that customers keep the email accounts they set up through its services after the switch to the Fidium brand. A consolidated.net, myfairpoint.net or surewest.net address keeps working with the same password. Only bills, the account portal and company emails now carry the Fidium name.

What is the Consolidated email settings for iPhone?

On an iPhone choose Add Account, then Other, then Add Mail Account, and pick IMAP. For a consolidated.net address enter imap.consolidated.net as the incoming host and smtp.consolidated.net as the outgoing host, your full address as the user name both times, and let the phone use SSL. Swap the domain for mycci.net, surewest.net or hickorytech.net addresses.

Do I need an app password for Consolidated email?

No. Consolidated mail servers take the ordinary mailbox password in any program and do not issue app passwords. That makes these addresses simpler to connect than Gmail, Yahoo or AOL, which refuse your real password in third party programs and ask you to generate a separate one.

Why is my FairPoint email not working?

The most common cause is mixing up the two FairPoint systems. Settings for fairpoint.net do not work on a myfairpoint.net address, and the reverse is also true, because they run on different servers. After that, check that outgoing authentication is on and that the user name is the full address rather than the part before the at sign.

What is the webmail address for Consolidated email?

Consolidated points customers to webmail.mycci.net for web email, and its own help article uses a hickorytech.net address as the example there. Webmail shows one mailbox per sign in, which is fine for checking a single address on a shared computer and slow for a household or office with several.

What is the SureWest email server?

SureWest addresses now live on the same hosted platform as consolidated.net. Incoming mail is imap.surewest.net on port 993 with SSL and outgoing mail is smtp.surewest.net on port 587 with STARTTLS, with the full surewest.net address as the user name. Both hosts answered with those options in our October 2026 test.

Can I read my Consolidated email in Gmail?

Today you can, through the Gmail setting that checks mail from other accounts. Google has announced it removes that POP fetch, Gmailify and Send as for third party addresses in January 2027, so a consolidated.net address pulled into Gmail that way stops updating. Reading the mailbox in place over IMAP is not affected.

Can I keep my consolidated.net email if I cancel Fidium internet?

Plan on no. Like most provider addresses, a consolidated.net or myfairpoint.net mailbox is tied to the internet account, so check with Fidium before you cancel. If you are switching providers, connect the old and the new address side by side while you move your bank, supplier and customer records over.

Your Consolidated address, and every other one

Connect consolidated.net, myfairpoint.net or surewest.net with the password you already have, add Gmail, Yahoo, iCloud and your own domain, and let a model tag each message before you read it. Nothing to install on any computer.
